Dr. Francesca Poloni, PhD, is a biologist with a specialization in Biotechnologies from the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy. With extensive experience in fundamental biology research focused on cancer resistance to chemotherapy, AIDS, and HCV within Italy's public sector, she transitioned to clinical research in both the EU and the US. Subsequently, Dr. Poloni entered the Biobanking sector in Luxembourg, where she developed Proficiency Testing Schemes and earned the ISBER Poster Award in Regulatory Biobanking. She later served as the research manager for the Experimental Medicine and Novel Therapeutics Research Cluster at the NHS in the UK. Dr. Poloni then joined the Directorate of Health in Luxembourg, whereas the National Coordinator, she spearheaded the elaboration of the first National Cancer Plan. With the backing of a dedicated Steering Committee, she also developed and launched Luxembourg's first National Plan on Rare Diseases. In 2020, after elaborating and initiating the second National Cancer Plan with the support of a Steering Committee, she became the Head of a new service at the Directorate of Health, responsible for coordinating all national plans in Luxembourg. In her current role, she focuses on developing a governance system for the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of national plans, emphasizing synergy creation across various public health programs and projects.
