Alain Coheur currently serves as President of the Section for the Single Market, Production and Consumption, European Economic and Social Committee.
He studied at the University of Liège, at the Faculty of Medicine, at the School of Public Health (specialization in hospital management) and at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. In 1991, he joined the Belgian National Union of Socialist Mutual Health Funds (research department). As a member of the Insurance Committee of the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance and in the National Council for hospitals of the Ministry of Public Health, he was involved in the management of the Belgian healthcare system. Since 1997, he has coordinated various cross-border healthcare projects between Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg financed by European funds, Interreg. Vice-President of Social Economy Europe, since 2018 he has been a director of the Montparnasse Institute, a mutualist think tank which studies the transformations of social economy companies, and in 2019 elected vice-president. In 2018, he became a member of the Board of Directors of CIRIEC (Belgian and international section). He was elected in 2019 as co-president of the International Forum for the Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS FI), formerly the Rencontres du Mont Blanc.
