Ingo Kurth is a medical doctor and human geneticist. Since 2016 he has been head of the Institute for Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine at the University Hospital in Aachen, Germany. His scientific focus is on neurogenetics and neurodegeneration, but he is a strong advocate for all kinds of genetic disorders. The great thing about the field is that the importance of rare diseases at the interface between patient care and research is being increasingly recognized. With the new possibilities of genome sequencing and linking our patients with clinical care and therapy, he is trying to come closer to the goal of personalized genomic medicine.
